Shows get together

31 August 2006

CPP Expo, the Converting and Package Printing Expo, will stage alongside the Pack Expo International and Process Expo events

AccuWeb now offers intermediate web guides with metric dimensions and fittings for the European and Asian Markets. Manufactured from rugged anodized aluminium, the AP-M Series guides are said to deliver dependable and precise performance for narrow web applications. The low inertia plate design provides fast frequency response, it is claimed, and each guide incorporates AccuWeb's proprietary linear bearing system that permits the guide assemblies to be installed in vertical, horizontal, or inverted positions.

The PDG-AP-M model has smooth, flat surfaces that are said to be simple to maintain in cleanroom environments. Booth 9511.

UK manufacturer of slitting and rewinding machines Ashe Converting Equipment will display the Sapphire S2, which is said to have many features to increase productivity. These include an all-electric shaftless unwind, a vacuum roller for tension isolation, ball type differential rewind shafts for a quick job change-over, AC drives as standard, and a maximum machine speed of 700m/min. Other features of this slitter include laser core positioning, a novel shaftless knife bar for quick and easy setting of the female knives, automatic knife positioning, and a wide range of unloading systems.

For high volume flexible packaging converters Ashe also has the Sapphire S2t automatic turret slitter. The added value of this machine is the minimal downtime it offers when finished reels are complete and a new set starts. This offers the converter maximum productivity, it is claimed.

With a machine speed of 700m/min the S2t is again available with a wide range of options to minimize downtime, such as automatic tape-down to core and tail, automatic stripping of the finished reels with a special core positioning device, and a wide range of unloading and finished reel handling systems. Booth 9711.

Flexart will be at the show selling Dyne Pens and solutions, and optical laser portable maginifers. Booth 9905.

FMS (Force Measuring Systems) claims its new DLS digital line sensor for web guiding offers reliability of line recognition “second to none”. This is made possible by digital technology, which also makes the sensor highly accurate (resolution 6/100mm) and very fast (cycle time 2ms) - ideal for high speed processing, the company states.

With only two buttons, the sensor is simple to set up and use. It can distinguish between guiding lines, printed characters, and similar patterns, and automatically ignores breaks in the line, errant marks, and printer's imprints that intersect the line. A LED position indicator visually displays the material position. It uses standard 24V DC power and the unit is galvanically isolated against electrical noise.

FMS also offers optical and ultrasonic edge sensors. Booth 9924.

JM Heaford will be exhibiting the latest model of the Cobra medium web plate mounting machine dedicated for sleeves (cylinder options are also available). New this year is a 'through the lens' target illumination system. The small circle of LED light projected onto the sleeve surface from each camera provides a pre-positioning guide and improves the image clarity of the register marks on the plate, said to result in faster and easier mounting. Booth 9741.

Kroenert will promote its coating and laminating systems. An example is the Reco 800A high speed, double-sided lacquer coating machine. This line has been designed for web widths between 800-1,650mm and a production speed of up to 1,000m/min. In particular, it is used for pre and post coating of cigarette paper with water based lacquers, including the intermediate step of metallization. An option is glue lamination of paper with aluminum foil.

The key components are two 800A coaters, which can be extended to ensure a quick change of the coating system. Double turning unwinders and rewinders make it possible to perform a flying reel change at production speed. Booth 9516.

New Era Converting Machinery offers a wide variety of web converting equipment including: unwinds, winders, coaters, laminators, embossers, dryers, drive and control systems, roll handling equipment and web handling systems. The company will engineer to meet specific requirements - “from simple components and sections to fully integrated high speed automatic process lines and systems”. A “highly flexible” pilot line facility and production scale unwind/winder test stand system allow New Era to work with customers in developing new equipment and processes. Booth 9920.

Adhesives specialist Nordson will be introducing ClearView production information systems, which use real-time production data collection and analysis “to help increase profitability through production efficiency and improved quality”. Early identification of production problems or bottlenecks is said to reduce scrap/rework and improve overall equipment effectiveness. Electronic alerts, web based access and streaming display boards provide necessary visibility of production information.

The LogiComm integrated pattern control and verification system will also be on display. This modular system offers flexibility for pattern control or verification independently or combined, and the ability to expand either capability as needed. The pattern control function offers numerous gun control and trigger inputs, selection of bead choices and multiple program memory. Various verification sensors monitor adhesive patterns and volume, overlapped or skewed substrates, bar codes, and fold or flap faults, among other parameters. Booth 9927.

Web and sheet cleaners for the printing, coating and laminating industries, will be displayed by Polymag Tek. The company's exhibits will include an oscillating six-roll web cleaner with clam shell and tape drawer slide, a three roll sheet cleaner, a two-roll narrow web cleaner, hand rollers, tacky pads, and adhesive tape rolls.

Polymag also manufactures customized web and sheet cleaning equipment that, it claims, can save companies money, by reducing product waste and operating costs, while improving product quality. It boasts of “near 100 per cent cleaning efficiency”. Booth 9921.

Process Sensors Corp is offering the MCT 300 Multi Constituent NIR Transmitter. Used in a wide variety of industrial processes, the MCT 300 is designed to monitor paper, film, and other web moistures, coating weights and temperatures. It also provides both analog and digital signals for communication to PLCs, host computers or other controllers. No central processor is required.

When the unit is mounted to the PSC scanner, it moves automatically across the web. The scanner and the MCT 300 communicate directly with PVDS Scanner software. Process Sensors' proprietary profile software is a Windows based cross-web profile package designed to be easy to view and comprehend. Two scanners can be controlled simultaneously with up to six web profiles displayed in real-time. Booth 9933.

Schlumpf will have examples of its roll handling equipment, core chucks and winding shafts on display, including the ERH-300-PT3 portable electric roll handling machine for lifting, turning and transporting rolls up to 300 lb. Booth 9941.

Termika.us/Imball Center insulated packaging offers protection from temperature fluctuations with custom sizing and printing. Made in Italy, the material is said to be washable, durable and reusable - custom printed logos and graphics are re-displayed with each additional use. This is said to provide “a new venue for branding in the food and beverage industry while ensuring optimal product quality”. Packaging material can be flexo printed from eight to 10 colours plus one for printing on both sides.

Termika's range includes specialized and/or customized, reusable containers for food, drinks and medical products, the Sacoloco sleeve for bottled water and other beverages, and the new Criomed and Criomed Plus line for the transport of temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals. Booth 9843.

The Terphane exhibit will feature the company's range of polyester films suitable for various flexible packaging converting processes, including water and solvent based printing, extrusion and adhesive laminating, coating and metallizing. Booth 9623.
