ICE comes to the UK

4 May 2006

ICE UK is a new, national converting event staged by nimble shows & media, organizer of the International Converting Exhibition (ICE) held in Munich, in partnership with Angel Business Communications. The exhibition will be supported by a technical conference and seminar, and will be staged in Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on June 13-14 – www.ice-x-uk.com

Adccat, The Association of Distributors, Coaters and Converters of Adhesive Tapes, will host a technical seminar at ICE, on June 13, with key speakers from Adccat and AFERA. Papers will range from tape manufacturing and conversion techniques through to new foams, adhesives and materials. Booking forms are available on the association’s website.

Adccat’s core objectives are to: promote the use and demand for converted adhesive tapes; promote the association as the first port of call for prospective buyers; promote inter-trade between its members; gain up to date technical information for suppliers; gain up to date information on new and future legislation; and promote high standards amongst its members

The Adccat website lists products and services offered by association mebers, together with a useful glossary of terms and links to the European AFERA association. Stand E2.

New to the European market, RDM Test Equipment is offering a hot tack tester said to be loaded with features and available at a significantly reduced cost, compared with others on the market. The HT1-XS measures the strength of the heat seal in typically vertical form fill seal applications. This defines a hot tack index which is the optimum heat seal strength over a range of temperatures.

The user can change the temperature and record results from multiple readings on the same graph. A touchscreen display enables the user to enter set-up parameters and see results more easily. The unit is also said to provide results that are repeatable and free from operator error, and less expensive than other units. It is also “lighter and more compact”.

The computer interface and software captures the data and graphically displays it. Data can be sent to a printer, exported or stored on a hard drive. Cold peel testing can also be performed, and the instrument tests heat seals on monolayers, laminations, foils, coextrusions and non wovens. Stand G36.

John Lack Equipment and ALS will introduce a range of automatic slitters working in line with four colour flexo printing machines linked to an integrated packaging line.
